Venture Scotland

The Laidlaw Youth Trust wishes to concentrate funding on effective small and medium sized charities in Scotland. The Trust will consider applications from larger charities, other voluntary sector and public organisations. Applications from private sector bodies working in partnership with a charity or public sector body may be considered.

Joint working

Where an application is based around joint working, it must clearly state what role each of the partners play in delivery of outcomes. There needs to be clear evidence that all the partners are willing to get involved in the project or activity for which funding is sought. LYT would expect senior executives from each partner organisation to be appointed as 'responsible owners' of joint work.

Geographical coverage

The Laidlaw Youth Trust mainly funds organisations delivering services and support to children and young people in Scotland. That is the main focus. However, applications for funding work elsewhere in the UK can be considered if the project or activity links to the Trust's key priorities. An example might be support for charities delivering improved educational outcomes in the west end of Newcastle near the location of the new Academy. Where projects involve people from the local community as volunteers, LYT will be interested to hear whether there will be any positive outcomes for them as well as the young clients. Volunteers might, for example, acquire new skills or become more engaged in community life.
