What we do not fund

The Laidlaw Youth Trust does not invite applications where the bid is largely for capital (e.g. for refurbishing accommodation, new building projects, or motor vehicles). Applications for funding individuals, bursary schemes, or posts in local authorities are also not invited. LYT is unlikely to fund one-off events such as seminars and conferences for staff involved in service delivery.

The Trust may also prioritise support for mentoring and befriending around schemes for the most disadvantaged young people. The Laidlaw Youth Trust does not invite holiday playschemes or very short term interventions.

Long-term projects

We wish to work with those charities and partners making the greatest difference. That means we are unlikely to offer any new partner charity initial funding for periods longer than 12 months. The Trust will consider funding longer pieces of work but that will mainly be with charities with whom LYT has already built a relationship – or where there is external evidence of quality service delivery such mentoring and befriending schemes with approved provider status.

With other charities, we would need to work with you for around a year and see evidence of outcomes before committing to longer term funding. That is because we keep the effectiveness of the Laidlaw Youth Trust itself and all the work we support under review.
